The previous gen Explorer was built on modified version of the FWD/AWD platform that is under that Taurus. IT returned to a RWD set up on the current gen

Giant *exterior* size, trunk aside, the interior was surprisingly cramped. So much for the packaging efficiencies of transverse engine/ FWD and unitary construction, I guess.
